MoFo #11: Houston Vegfest

I never shared my Vegfest Houston finds on the blog. The festival was held on July 19th. I was volunteering most of the day because I helped recruit speakers. It was a little chaotic in the morning! I took a lunch break when my friend came to see me at the festival. We got lunch from the Ripe booth. I ordered the Italian sandwich and the jackfruit carnitas tacos. Later in the afternoon, I stopped at another booth for a bahn mi sandwich. It was from a coffee house, I think, but I can't remember the name. I bit right into a jalapeno and, goodness, it was HOT HOT HOT. I snagged a MALK pudding from the Sinfull booth too. After the festival, Pepper Tree donated food for the volunteers' dinner and we hung out at a volunteer's house. I somehow convinced a group of people to play Chubby Bunny with Dandie's vegan marshmallows. I'll miss my VSOP friends when I'm in Japan, but I already found a vegan meetup group in Tokyo. :)

MoFo #10: Green Vegetarian - Houston, TX

I usually go to Green for brunch with friends, but our meetup was scheduled for lunchtime recently. As much as I like the migas, I wanted lunch. I had been awake for a long time, so it didn't feel like brunch time. I ordered the chick'n fried chick'n with mashed potatoes and veggies. I asked for the gravy on the side since I don't usually like gravy. This was comfort food all the way! I forgot to photograph my cupcake for dessert, but just know it was tasty. :)

MoFo #9: Cafe Express - Houston, TX

While doing some shopping recently, we stopped at Cafe Express for lunch. The veggie burger is vegan without cheese according to the employee I asked. I asked for avocado instead of cheese. The burger was ok and the fries were good, but I won't rush back to this place. The chain has several locations around town. I never stopped at one before because I didn't think they'd have anything vegan. At least I know it's an option now.

Weekend Adventures

The Dude has been in Tokyo for almost two weeks, but this past weekend was his first in our new place. He went to a vegan buffet with the vegan meetup group. He went on a pubcrawl with a coworker in the Shibuya area. They decided to leave around midnight. On their way out of the club, they saw two drag queens on stage. They managed to find the exit and grabbed some food before going home. They were out the next night with another coworker on a pubcrawl in a different part of Tokyo. The Dude wanted to leave before the others. He got lost on the way to the train station! Thankfully Japan is very safe. Once he got home, we had a facetime date. The other accomplishment of the weekend was going to the grocery store. The realtor showed him where it was on his first day in the apartment, so he's going shopping every few days. He sent me a photo of tofu skin stuffed with sushi rice, but not one of his marinated mushroom stir-fry.
The dude went to the vegan meetup at The Pink Cow tonight. The dude went on a pub crawl in Shibuya and may have caught an impromptu drag show. The dude picked out tofu skin stuffed with sushi rice at the grocery store for $1.60.

MoFo #8: Bullritos - Houston, TX

Bullritos is a chain in Houston. The dude and I grabbed a quick bite at a Bullritos in the airport when we were traveling to see his family. He really liked the charro beans. No other burrito place in town makes charro beans. We recently returned to Bullritos for lunch. I decided to get nachos and a frozen lemonade. I topped my nachos with rice and beans, salsa, corn, jalapenos, fajita veggies, and guac.

MoFo #7: Field of Greens - Upper Kirby, Houston, TX

I met with a VSOP contact to discuss living in Japan. She is from Japan and travels there frequently for work. She offered me many helpful tips for living in Tokyo. It just made me so much more excited about this move! She picked Field of Greens for our lunch. She eats a raw/macrobiotic diet, so she ordered the raw plate. I got the new enchiladas plate. I thought it was ok. After talking with another VSOP friend, it turns out that Field of Greens has used non-vegan faux meats in the past. I don't think the food there is incredible, so I probably won't return whenever I'm in Houston next. It was also HOT inside, like the air conditioning was completely broken. That was awful!

MoFo #6: Pizza Addiction

When I was downloading photos from my phone for MoFo posts, I noticed I have several photos of Whole Foods' vegan pizza. Hahaha. In the close-up shot, the pizza was made using Follow Your Heart's new gourmet shreds, not Daiya. I normally see Daiya on the pizza at my WF store, but the one close to the dude's house chose FYH cheese for some reason. It was really tasty though! After lifting boxes all day, that pizza hit the spot! I ate my half of the pizza and a brownie while the dude was in the shower, haha.
